Fashionphile’s 2026 Resale Report: What It Means for You

Luxury Fashion: The Secrets Uncovered

This post is especially for my fancy luxury enthusiasts and you know we go way back! So I just took a fun deep dive into Fashionphile’s 2026 Ultra-Luxury Resale Report, and it confirms what I’ve been seeing in my own shop for over 20 years in the consignment business. Secondhand isn’t a trend anymore. It’s how many of us shop resale now, and the 2026 numbers show how far it has really come. It is amazing actually if you think about it, because it’s sustainable luxury ( in other words amazing for our planet). I just love that!

Whether you’re buying or selling designer luxury this holiday season, here’s what’s hot, why it matters, and how to make the most of it.

1. Secondhand Is the New Flex

This is my favorite takeaway. Buying pre-owned used to carry a stigma in a way, and now it’s a bragging right. I have seen this evolve in my own personal experiences. The report traces the shift from the thrifters of the ’60s, to grunge in the ’90s, to the eBay era (my era!), to Gen Z today. Carrying a pre-owned designer bag is now a total status symbol. People love telling you where they found theirs which is so cool to hear the stories. Oh and there are always interesting stories let me tell you!

As someone who has spent two decades in this business, I couldn’t be happier. It truly makes me so proud how fashion has changed for the better.

2. What Sold Best in 2026

The Top bags 2026:

  1. Louis Vuitton Speedy (number one for the second year in a row, with its value up 16.2%)
  2. Chanel Double Flap (not surprised at all)
  3. Prada Re-Edition 2005 (a fun surprise)

The rest of the top 10 includes the Saint Laurent Lou Camera Bag, Gucci Dionysus, Hermès Evelyne, Bottega Veneta Jodie, Lady Dior, and my all time favorite, Fendi Baguette . The wild card was the Goyard Saint Louis, which snuck in at number seven.

Beyond bags:

  • Shoes: Hermès Oran sandals took the top spot.
  • Watches: Vintage bracelet styles won, led by the Hermès Clipper.
  • Earrings: Hermès Farandole studs.
  • Rings and bracelets: The Cartier LOVE band was number one for rings. For bracelets, it was the Van Cleef & Arpels Vintage Alhambra.

Fine jewelry without a logo also stood out. Shoppers wanted quality craftsmanship without the brand-name markup, and quiet luxury lovers stacked it right on.

3. The Trends to Know

  • The Chanel effect: Matthieu Blazy’s debut Chanel collection made Chanel the most searched brand of the year. Some sellers were paid above retail for his pieces, which is rare in resale but totally understandable.
  • Texture: Searches for pony hair jumped 259%.
  • Ballet flats: Searches up 751%.
  • Silk scarves: Searches up 369%, worn as tops, tied onto bags, and everything in between.
  • Minis: The Hermès Neo Garden Party saw searches surge 344%, and searches for “mini,” “micro,” and “small” bags all climbed.
  • Men’s bags: Searches up 166%.
  • Pins and brooches: Up nearly 158%, with Chanel pins up over 360%.
  • Blue: Every shade of it.

4. Nostalgia Is Everywhere

Vintage searches rose 112%, and I love this one. People are looking back for comfort, and the 2000s and 2016 are both having a moment.

  • Fendi Spy bag: Value more than doubled.
  • Saint Laurent Mombasa: Average sale price up 291%.
  • Monogram denim: Searches up over 1,000%.
  • Gucci Dionysus and Celine Luggage: The 2016 favorites are back.

If you have a discontinued or vintage piece in your closet, now is a great time to look at what it might be worth.

5. Your Bag Can Be an Investment

The report points out that classics like the Hermès Birkin, Louis Vuitton Speedy, and Chanel Double Flap keep climbing in resale value year over year. That’s the real math behind a good designer purchase. It’s more than cost-per-wear. It’s what the piece can return when you’re ready to let it go.

6. Each Generation Has Its Style

  • Gen Z: Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Fendi
  • Millennials: Gucci, Dior, and Saint Laurent
  • Gen X: Bottega Veneta, Hermès, and Celine
  • Boomers: Tiffany, Balenciaga, and Goyard

A black Chanel Double Flap was a favorite across every age group.

7. Tips for Buying Smart This Holiday Season

  • Buy from sources that authenticate. Fashionphile has now introduced a digital certificate of authenticity.
  • Check the condition, not just the label. A beautiful mid-tier bag can beat a worn “it” bag.
  • Think small. Pins, scarves, charms, and mini bags are easier to gift and easier to find.
  • Shop early. The best pieces go fast as the holidays get closer.
  • Protect your investment. Cleaning and care kits keep your bags in great shape and help them hold their value.

8. Insider Advice If You’re Selling

  • Presentation matters. Clean it, photograph it well, and include the dust bag and box if you have them.
  • Know your numbers. Compare similar pieces on resale platforms before you set a price.
  • Tell its story. Buyers love knowing where a piece came from.
  • List early. Demand picks up heading into the holidays.
  • Check your closet for the trending pieces. A Blazy-era Chanel, a Speedy, a vintage Fendi, or a Saint Laurent Mombasa could be worth way more than you think.

A Peek at 2027

Fashionphile’s forecast points to two directions: Miami Nice (pastels, glossy vinyl and nylon, and big, flashy jewelry) and Haute Hippie (fringe, florals, fancy, and a floppy handbag).

The Bottom Line for luxury Fashion

Resale is no longer the backup plan, it’s the smart plan. Whether you’re hunting for a timeless icon or cleaning out your closet to fund your next find, this is a great moment to be in the know. Read the full report here.
