Stress & Anxiety- 15 ways to de-stress and stay calm

Being fabulous every day is hard work. Busy schedules, work, parenting, paying bills, you get it. Sometimes we just need a time out. The world has gotten more stressful than ever and I’m here to give you my top tips on staying calm and de-stressing. It’s something that can happen out of the blue without expecting it. I’m not a doctor but I’m someone that lives with anxiety daily and have to constantly remind myself to practice my techniques. If you can’t get to Hawaii or a tropical paradise, here are my top tips on combating stress.

Meditate-regular meditation can help you relax and relieve stress. Set your phone on a ten minute timer. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and release any tension you are holding onto. Practicing a few times a week can really help calm your nerves.

Take a nap- just a ten minute nap does wonders.

Read a book- watching the news or scrolling through social media can be stressful. Turn off your TV and read a nice uplifting book instead.

Exercise three to four times a week- just a quick 20 minute walk or online yoga class can boost your mood, reduce pain and increase your happy hormones like serotonin, dopamine ect.

Clean your space-a clean house is a magical feeling. If you don’t have time or feel like it, simply clean off a small desk, a clear space will lift your spirits.

Listen to a podcast- there are many wellness podcasts out there ready to lift your spirits and mood. Find one that interests you.

Light a lavender candle- using scents like lavender or frankincense can lower anxiety and depression, says scientists.

Deep breathing exercises- The 4-7-8 breathing technique, also known as “relaxing breath” involves breathing in for 4 seconds, holding the breath for 7 seconds, and exhaling for 8 seconds. This breathing technique has helped me with anxiety and panic attacks. It is known to help people get to sleep as well. Source- courtesy of Web MD.

Cleanse your face- wash the day away and apply my favorite calming and soothing, Royal Highness Elixir face oil

Lavender essential oil- pour a few drops in a good diffuser from Amazon. It’s a nice way to scent your space and change your mood.

Eat clean- eating healthy food is essential. Vegetables and protein are key. Try to avoid sugar and caffeine.

Take a warm bath– a nice warm bubble bath with your favorite aroma is always a soothing treat after a long day. Always have a stack of luxurious clean towels for the most indulgent spa like experience.

Sip on hot tea- Get out your most fancy tea cup. Not only can herbal tea help you stay hydrated, it can calm and soothe, leaving you feeling refreshed. I like to add a squeeze of fresh lemon and a teaspoon of honey for an added immunity boost.

Shopping online- what is a better excuse to shop? It can take your mind off things and is definitely fun. If you’re short on cash, shop a good sale.

Watch a great series or movie– I’m really enjoying watching the Yellowstone series on Paramount
